Cold Pork Shabu Shabu

Was watching a Japanese variety show and got inspired to whip up a simple salad for Mr Loh. Turned out pretty tasty, and Mr Loh was a happy man. Photo taken using iPhone 4.

Simple and nice

  •  Pork loin or belly sukiyaki (available in major supermarkets)
  •  Iceberg lettuce, cut into medium pieces
  •  French beans, trimmed and boiled (~4 mins)






Use either Japanese sesame sauce salad dressing (available in major supermarkets) or make your own dipping sauce.

 For dipping sauce:

– 4 Tbsp rice vinegar  – 2 Tbsp soy sauce  – 1 Tbsp mirin (boiled and cooled) – 1 Tbsp sugar – 1 Tbsp white sesame seeds, grounded


Fill a bowl with ice water and set aside. Boil water in a medium pot, and add pork slices in the boiling water one by one. When pork slices are cooked, immediately transfer them to ice water to chill. Drain the pork. Place lettuce pieces on a plate. Put green beans and boiled pork on top. Mix all ingredients for dipping sauce in a small bowl. Serve the dipping sauce on the side. Eat pork with vege, dipping into the sauce.

*If you like carrot, get 1, slice into thin strips and boiled. Mr Loh hates carrots, so I left it out.
